For Storytellers age 18 and over

This document governs the relationship between Harpier, LLC ("Harpier," "we," "us," or "our") and you as a person who shares a story with us (a "Storyteller"), whether through a digital survey, a link, or an event capture such as a QR code. It works together with the Harpier Privacy Policy, which describes what we collect, how we share it, how long we keep it, and the rights you have. Where this document and the Privacy Policy address the same topic, read them together.A note on identity protection. Before story content is processed by our automated curation tools, we replace your name and remove direct contact details, substituting a coded identifier that only we can link back to you. Final published materials may still identify you by name or likeness where you have consented, as described in Section 6. Tokenization protects your information inside our curation process. It does not mean a story is anonymous.
1. Voluntary participation
Participation as a Storyteller is entirely voluntary. You decide whether to share, what to share, and how involved you want to be. You can set or update your participation preferences at any time, including which kinds of engagement you take part in, whether you are available for further contributions, and how your experiences are referenced in ongoing initiatives. 2. Age confirmation
By providing this consent, you confirm that you are 18 years of age or older. If you are under 18, please stop and use the Harpier Storyteller Consent for ages 13 to 17 instead.
3. Consent to use and disclose your information
By selecting "yes," you grant Harpier permission to use, curate, and disclose your information and contributions to current and prospective users ("Recipients") and to organizations affiliated with you, for the purposes described in Section 4.
4. Purposes
We may use and disclose your information and contributions to support people who are being recruited to an institution or program, navigating a career journey, or navigating an education search and decision. We may use them to make connections between Storytellers and Recipients based on mutual interaction preferences, and to help institutions prepare an enhanced experience based on your contributions and preferences. We may use your contributions on behalf of an organization you are affiliated with.
5. Information covered
The information covered by this consent includes your profile and content, which may include your name, image and likeness, contact information, demographic information, educational history, employment information, the context of your experiences, your thoughts and feedback, your contribution and interaction preferences, your social media or professional profiles, and other information we collect and maintain about you. This information may come from you directly, from an organization or institution where authorized, or from publicly available sources as described in the Privacy Policy.
6. Institutional and publicity use
You grant Harpier, and the organization or institution that invited you to participate (the "Sponsoring Organization"), a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, publish, display, perform, distribute, and adapt your contribution, including your name, image, likeness, voice, and statements, in connection with the purposes in Section 4.This includes use in the Sponsoring Organization's communications, such as newsletters, websites, social media, email campaigns, presentations, recruitment and admissions materials, fundraising and alumni communications, and other promotional or educational materials. Harpier may grant the Sponsoring Organization and Recipients the rights they need to use your contribution for these purposes.Published materials may identify you by name and may include your image or likeness. This is different from our automated curation process, where we replace your name with a coded identifier as described above and in the Privacy Policy. The license in this section continues unless and until you withdraw it under Section 11, subject to the limits on copies already distributed.
7. Use of publicly available information
To improve the completeness and accuracy of your profile, we may collect, verify, or supplement profile information using publicly available sources, and we may use that information in the same way as information you provide directly. We do not knowingly access non-public information or circumvent privacy settings. We will honor reasonable requests to review, correct, or update profile information we maintain.
8. How we curate and manage contributions
You grant Harpier the right to use, adapt, distribute, and share your contributions across formats and platforms for purposes including education, promotion, and audience engagement. We may refine contributions for grammar, readability, and fit with the intended audience, while preserving the core message and integrity of what you shared. We retain discretion over how contributions are organized and presented, consistent with our mission and this consent. Contributions that have been shared may remain in our archives and materials, subject to your rights in Section 11.
9. Your statements and the people in them
You confirm that your contribution is truthful to the best of your knowledge, that it is your own, and that it does not infringe anyone's rights or include confidential information you are not free to share. If your contribution mentions, names, or pictures other people, please share only what those people would be comfortable having shared, and do not include private information about them without their agreement.
10. Recording
If your contribution is captured by audio or video recording, you consent to the recording and to its use for the purposes described in this consent.
11. Your rights and how to change your mind
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your information, and you may opt out of certain uses, as described in the Privacy Policy and subject to applicable law. Contact us at [privacy@harpier.com].If you ask us to stop using a contribution, we will remove it from active and future use, direct the Sponsoring Organization to do the same going forward, and take reasonable steps to honor your request promptly. Please understand that we cannot recall copies of a contribution that have already been distributed or printed before your request. Changes may not apply retroactively to materials already in use.
12. No compensation
You understand that you will not receive compensation in connection with this consent, unless Harpier, a Recipient, or an organization explicitly provides notice that compensation, reward, or recognition will be given for a specific contribution. Harpier assumes no responsibility for compensation or obligations unless explicitly stated.
13. Your role and representation
Your story may be shared directly with Recipients or on behalf of a Sponsoring Organization, such as a university, company, or program. Where your contribution is part of an organization's outreach, you may be representing that organization through your story. You are made aware of the inviting organization through Harpier's customized Story Onboarding Experience, which reflects that organization's branding.
14. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, hold harmless, and at Harpier's option defend Harpier from and against any losses arising from a third-party claim that your information, or its use in accordance with Section 4, infringes or misappropriates that third party's United States intellectual property rights, and any losses resulting from a Recipient's use of your information where the injury is a direct result of the Recipient's use or disclosure.
15. Governing law and entire agreement
This consent is governed by the laws of the State of New York. This document, together with the Privacy Policy, constitutes the entire agreement between you and Harpier relating to the use and disclosure of your information. We may update this document from time to time, with the latest version taking effect upon publication.
